Shinbun Akahata Reports on October 18th Pro-Palestine Protest in Shinjuku
[Translated original title: “Red Tears” for Gaza: Shinjuku, Tokyo Action Demands Immediate Ceasefire.]
As the death toll from Israel’s attack on Gaza, Palestine, surpassed 10,000, demonstrators held an action in front of Shinjuku station, Tokyo, on October 18th to mourn each victim and demand an immediate ceasefire. While reading out loud the names of victims one by one, attendees painted red tears on a white cloth.
The action was organized by Palestinians of Japan, a group composed of Japanese residents of Palestinian heritage and their allies. Zack (31), a member with Albanian roots, stated, “These deaths are not just a number. We want to think about and mourn every single victim as an individual.”
Kitte Takahiro (58), a resident of Italy visiting Japan for work, stated, “Though the region has a complex history, we as humans cannot allow what is happening in Gaza to continue. There are many people saying they want to do something to help stop the fighting. Through actions and demonstrations such as today’s, we hope to voice our thoughts and get the attention of politicians and leaders.”
